Music Ministries

The Chancel Choir, a group of approximately 25 adults with widely varied vocal backgrounds, provides the primary music leadership during our traditional 11:00 a.m. worship service. The Chancel Choir enjoys singing a wide repertoire of choral music from the music of the Renaissance to the comtemporary anthem, as well as spirituals and the great hymns of our faith. Our primary mission is the preparation and presentation of liturgical music for worship; however, concerts are presented at Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter. No audition is required for this choir. All are welcome to attend rehearsals–see the church calendar for times.

The Contemporary Ensemble, a group of 5 to 10 instrumentalists and singers, provides the primary music leadership during our contemporary 8:45 a.m. worship service. This group may consist of a number of guitars, violins, a piano, and a clarinet but is not limited to these instruments. Musicians are volunteers who practice at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings.

The Chapel Singers, a group of approximately 15 youth and adults with a wide variety of musical backgrounds, provide special music throughout the year for the 8:45 a.m. Contemporary Service. This group is led by Dr. Audrey Remley and rehearsal times can be found in the newsletter.

The Chancel Handbell & Chime Choir is an ensemble of handbell and chime ringers who perform with a four octave set of English handbells and a three octave set of chimes. This group plays during some worship services and for special events throughout the year. All members of WPC are encouraged to come to the rehearsals and to consider joining this choir.

Children’s Choir and related musical activities are incorporated into the Church School hour on Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m. for children through grade five.

On Wednesday and Thursday evenings, from 6:30 p.m. till _?_, WPC holds a ‘jam session’ in which all interested musicians and singers are invited to participate. Audience participation (and critics) are also welcome. You need not be a member of WPC to come join in the fun. The Wednesday session is devoted to learning and/or rehearsing the music for the 8:45 a.m. Sunday contemporary service. The Thursday session is spent playing and singing a variety of ‘fun’ music. Some of the different instruments played during jam sessions can include; accoustic, electric and bass guitars, violins (fiddles), mandolin, drums, piano, keyboard, clarinet, tin whistles, etc. Come join the fun—participate or just watch and tap your foot.
